HUNTING RETREATS AT WHITE OAK CONFERENCE CENTER
Hunting retreats at White Oak are available for a twofold purpose: to provide wildlife management for the facility and for men to come together and fellowship in the great outdoors.
An opportunity for men to meet and discuss true “Manhood” is the first goal of the Hunting Retreats.
The second goal, Wildlife Management, is to establish a deer herd balanced with the habitat and maintain a healthy population once that number is reached. The most efficient way to go about accomplishing good stewardship is implementation of Quality Deer Management (QDM). Guidelines for deer harvest are based on principles that work when followed. Allowing younger bucks to reach older age classes requires hunters to pass up shots at bucks until they reach the 3.5 year age class, which is 15 inch outside spread or larger in our area. Harvest of does is required to keep the herd from over populating their range.
Reasons for implementation of management restrictions:
Size of property (700 acres) allows us to take about 5 male deer per year max. That goal would be reached within one to two hunts without antler restrictions (young bucks are easy to harvest because high rate of daytime movement).
All hunters will participate in orientation and be given a copy of the rules. All hunters will read and sign a liability waiver form.
